Staff Engineer (ITS/Signals)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Engineer is a 0-3 year professional who will assist in McMahon’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) group on a variety of projects under direct supervision of an experienced professional. The ideal candidate will be working out of one of our Pennsylvania offices (Ft. Washington, Exton or Camp Hill).

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Complete engineering analyses and designs of ITS projects such as traffic management centers, dynamic message signs, CCTV cameras, roadway weather information systems, incident detection, highway lighting, traffic signals, communication systems, etc.
  • Assist with field work, data collection, special studies, etc. as needed and required for design and analyses
  • Prepare or modify reports, specifications, construction schedules, plans and designs for projects
  • Complete cross-training of signal and corridor signal projects
  • Draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, and response letters
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
  • Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects as necessary
  • Coordinate with technical staff as necessary

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • AutoCAD and/or Microstation experience
  • MS Office familiarization
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  • No formal work experience required; relevant internship or 1-3 years of entry-level experience preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED: 

  • Engineering-In-Training Preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in the field and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. Work requires frequent and prolonged computer use.  May require occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
