Traffic & Parking Counter (Part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, the Traffic & Parking Counter is responsible for manually counting traffic at major traffic intersections and/or parking facilities in Southeastern Pennsylvania and surrounding region. Reports to the Senior Traffic Technician and/or Project Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Responsible for performing manual traffic volume counts at major traffic intersections including a breakdown of lane usage according to the selected turn patterns of drivers, and/or conducting parking utilization observations
  • Operates a digital counting device for extended periods of time
  • Assists the Senior Traffic Technician and the Project Manager with the transfer of data from the digital counting device to the computer
  • Returns data and equipment to Senior Traffic Technician in a timely manner in order to maintain project schedules
  • Performs other assigned duties

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to be a team player and very responsible with regards to being at an assigned location in advance of assigned data collection times
  • Ability to listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgment to make appropriate decisions
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics to include: addition, subtraction, and use of tally sheets
  • Working knowledge of field safety to include occupational hazards, safety precautions and safety regulations related to traffic and traffic patterns
  • Ability to walk the assigned study area to complete parking data collection over the course of several hours

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • Requires a valid driverís license with an acceptable driving record and your own reliable transportation to and from data collections locations and the project office or the Fort Washington, PA office. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

Work is performed primarily in the field, however work may be performed in an office setting.  Work may require frequent and prolonged data collection equipment use, and in some cases walking through the study area for hours.  May occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The hours for this position are varied and on an as needed basis.

This position may risk exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
