Structural Bridge Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Structural Bridge Engineer will take the lead in providing engineering services and analysis on bridge projects. A qualified candidate can work in either McMahon's Exton, PA or Camp Hill, PA office.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  •  Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents as necessary
  •  Perform bridge inspection and condition assessments
  •  Prepare or modify reports, specifications, construction schedules, impact studies, permits and designs for projects
  •  Coordinate bridge and roadway repairs with crews and subcontractors
  •  Assist Project Engineer and Staff Engineer with questions and balancing of task vs time to complete task
  •  Prepare project estimates, budgets, schedules and execution of plans
  •  Monitor Staff Engineers progress against project budget and anticipated schedules
  •  Complete engineering analysis and designs with minimal supervision
  •  Assist with QA/QC processes and documentation

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of CAD and manual drafting principles, methods and techniques.
  • Must have knowledge of all  PennDOT Structural Programs
  • Ability to clearly  communicate with client, public, media, engineers and subcontractors verbally and in writing
  • Ability to create technical reports
  • Ability to review plans, contracts, bid documents and technical reports
  • Ability to review standards and specify equipment and materials for maintenance and construction work
  • Bridge construction and  design experience
  • Design/build or contractor/construction engineering experience a plus
  • Project Management experience is a plus
  • CBSI Certification is a plus

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelorís Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 8-12 years of progressive work experience

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED/PREFRRED: 

  • Registered as a PE is preferred
  • Registered as a CBSI is preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no immediate supervisory responsibilities, at this time.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This role requires frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in the field and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. This position may include occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The regular workweek consists of 40 hours within a seven (7) day period, Saturday through Friday. This is normally divided into five (5) working days, eight (8) hours per day, with two (2) days off per week. This position may be required to work additional hours and to work non-standard hours or days.

TRAVEL:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

This position may risk exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
