Staff Engineer (Signals)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Engineer who will assist in McMahon’s Traffic Signals group on a variety of projects under direct supervision of an experienced professional.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  •  Complete traffic engineering analyses and designs of Traffic Signals/ITS projects such as traffic management centers, dynamic message signs, CCTV cameras, roadway weather information systems, incident detection, highway lighting, traffic signals, communication systems, etc.
  •  Assist with field work, data collection, special studies, etc. as needed and required for design and analyses
  •  Prepare or modify reports, specifications, construction schedules, plans and designs for projects
  •  Complete cross-training of signal and corridor signal projects
  •  Draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, and response letters
  •  Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and other computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
  •  Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects as necessary
  •  Coordinate with technical staff as necessary
  •  Other assigned duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  •  AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience
  •  MS Office familiarization
  •  Strong oral and written communication skills
  •  Ability to work as part of a team
  •  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors
  •  Organizational skills and attention to detail

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in the field and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. Work requires frequent and prolonged computer use. May require occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no immediate supervisory responsibilities.


ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

This position may risk exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a full-time position. The typical work days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some night and weekend work may be required.

 

TRAVEL:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
  •  Relevant internship or 0-3 years of entry-level experience preferred

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED: 

  •  Engineering-In-Training Preferred
